The simple fact is that Australia has a housing shortage. We need to build more homes, more quickly, in more parts of the country.

That's why the Albanese Government has an ambitious goal of building 1.2 million homes by the end of the decade. We know this is a challenge, but it's a challenge we have to meet.

We need more tradies and construction workers, faster approvals and new incentives for getting the job done. Getting this many homes built will be hard work.  It won't happen overnight. But it's the best and most lasting fix.

First Home Super Saver Scheme

The First Home Super Saver Scheme lets you make extra voluntary contributions to your super fund, you can grow your savings faster and take advantage of lower tax rates, all to help you buy or build your first home.

Fast-track your path to home ownership with the Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme, formerly known as the Home Guarantee Scheme.

Help to Buy

Too many people are working hard and saving, but still struggling to afford a deposit. Under Help to Buy, the government will provide a contribution of up to 40% for 40,000 low- and middle-income households to purchase a home of their own.

National Agreement on Social Housing and Homelessness

This agreement provides $9.3 billion to states and territories to combat homelessness and build and repair social housing.

More homes for women escaping violence

Our Housing Australia Future Fund includes funding for 4,000 homes for women and children fleeing domestic violence or older women at risk of homelessness. And we’re investing $100m in crisis and transitional housing.

We’re also targeting $1 billion under the National Housing Infrastructure Facility towards crisis and transitional accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic violence, and youth.
